Today, I have started to compose a song with a ballad-pop taste. I have started using the Ionian mode from the chords C-D-E-D and a strong rhythm of the hit hat with the kick drum plus the snare. Taking part from the ideas of studying modes, I have made this song with the Ionian mode which consists of using the C major scale.
However, even if I know that the Ionian mode is used for a happier and brighter sound, in this case, I am using it to make a very sad lyrics song to contrast the fact that sometimes it works. As well as the addition of strings such as the violins to give a harmony more melodic and contrasting to the idea that I want to project for this heartbreaking song, the violin really gives the moving feeling.
Basically, I have thought about to compose a song that talks about how a guy wants to break up with the girl he used to love because she is not her anymore, she is now someone else who he does not want to be with anymore.
However, even if I know that the Ionian mode is used for a happier and brighter sound, in this case, I am using it to make a very sad lyrics song to contrast the fact that sometimes it works. As well as the addition of strings such as the violins to give a harmony more melodic and contrasting to the idea that I want to project for this heartbreaking song, the violin really gives the moving feeling.
Basically, I have thought about to compose a song that talks about how a guy wants to break up with the girl he used to love because she is not her anymore, she is now someone else who he does not want to be with anymore.
Doing some research, I have found that the natural major scale apart from giving a brighter and happier mood to a song, it also works as a dramatic soap opera mood of this kind of tv shows where the drama is coming up all the time. But in this case, the three chords used in the song as the base of it (C-D-E) make really interesting and fuller the sound of my voice.
Also, I have taken as a reference one song called ' Suelta mi mano' which in Spanish it means 'Let go my hand'. The topic is very similar to my song about the heartbreaking and a breakup, however, the key for this song is the G major key which is more related to the Lydian mode. It works really well with the topic of the song because it sounds very dramatic and sad, but I want to use this song as a reference to help me to guide my way through the composition of my song.
Today, I have the chance of using one of the production rooms at college where I could produce quickly the instrumental for my song and even I could record some vocals. I know that sounds like a lie, but I actually could produce this instrumental and recording the vocals plus composing the song in three hours session. Today was a very productive day because I was fast and easily inspired by an experience that I had in the past with a relationship that did not work well for so many sudden changes in everything.

Today, I have started research about how the music in C major affects emotionally the human brain and the mood.
Most of the sources say that the C major can be described as the following words:
Also, I have taken as a reference one song called ' Suelta mi mano' which in Spanish it means 'Let go my hand'. The topic is very similar to my song about the heartbreaking and a breakup, however, the key for this song is the G major key which is more related to the Lydian mode. Today, I have started research about how the music in C major affects emotionally the human brain and the mood.

However, I personally think that the key of C major can be used to transmit sadness as I am doing it with my song 'Lo Siento' which translated to English it means 'I'm Sorry'. That is one of the reasons for my project, that I want to combine things and mixing them. I specifically want to say that music is limitless and to be creative is the most important to be highlighted in this industry.
Also, today I am focusing on writing more lyrics and composing more melodies to make fuller my song and to give it more body with an electric guitar and extra pedals. Below I have attached the current lyrics that I have for this song and I hope to have it finished by the end of this week:

Today, I have done some fix to the track 'Lo siento', because I received some feedback from my tutors that were saying that the vocals were not sounding good and that the levels of the drums and the harmonies were not balanced, all disconnected all out of place. However, I re-recorded the vocals and I balanced better the song. This is the last version of this song and I think that I was properly done, to be honest. I took about two hours to find a better sound and I think that the arrangement with some volume automation in the violin and piano creates a good connection of the dynamics that It needs at end the chorus and at the beginning of the verses which clearly works because in the chorus the drums and bass are louder and fuller whereas in the verses I just need a full sound of violin or piano. So, the balance is not well approached from my point of view.

Today, I have done some fix to the track 'Lo siento', because I received some feedback from my tutors that were saying that the vocals were not sounding good and that the levels of the drums and the harmonies were not balanced, all disconnected all out of place. However, I re-recorded the vocals and I balanced better the song. This is the last version of this song and I think that I was properly done, to be honest. I took about two hours to find a better sound and I think that the arrangement with some volume automation in the violin and piano creates a good connection of the dynamics that It needs at end the chorus and at the beginning of the verses which clearly works because in the chorus the drums and bass are louder and fuller whereas in the verses I just need a full sound of violin or piano. So, the balance is not well approached from my point of view.
It always happens to me when I make music, that I produce the first versions of any songs and two days later it sounds different to me and I have to re-work the track to make it sound better. I think that the fact that the brain interprets everything in a moment and then it processes the understanding of how it should have sounded like before, and then you realise that it actually was not what you were expecting is something very interesting and even inexplicable for me.

REFLECTION OF THE WEEK: This week I was focused on getting a good sound for my song and to get a good composition. I honestly do not understand how the inspiration works. Sometimes it just flows easily and sometimes it just does not. However, the fact of analysing modes finding a sense of why a major scale song sounds too sad for me. Next week I will carry on with a new song and I keep doing research about finding my identity and creating my Logo. I have to start looking for my profile as an artist and to identify the main factors that make me who I am now or at least what I am becoming.
