Technology in Context
Bernhoft who uses the looping on his music to creates the melody in every single instrument. he uses a dynamical and an interesting range of different acoustic instruments, such as the bass, the percussion, the hooks and the second voices. Also, he uses his voice to create repetitive phrases that contain like a Dj effect at the end of the phrase of the hook. He uses the loop pedal very well to create a live recording which is very interesting because he recreates an acoustic kind of instruments just with the guitar and his voices. In addition, he accompanies himself with the guitar giving dynamic to the song, because even when everything is looped is not monotonous and repetitive in the whole song. he really knows how to put in and how to take out the recorded channels a tempo.
MY OWN PRACTICE
I usually get in touch with the technology when I practice, mainly by the use of the looping. Basically, I do not have a loop pedal, but I use the programme of logic Pro and I play some bars with my guitar, that then it is recorded with an USB microphone.
Nowadays, the modern music is very looped, mostly with the drums and the percussion sounds which a very interesting patterns of the most famous tracks, to express impact to the listener, which is very catchy. Such as the R&B, Trap, Reggaeton, Romantic and Pop Latin music, which the style of music that I really like to work with.
I really like the looping because it allows me to recreate the same parts in different spaces in between the song, as well as the implementation of strong percussion patterns that increase the dynamic in the songs, giving more weight and impact to the music that I create.
For example, I usually start with a 4 bar beats of percussion to give a sense of rhythm and control of the tempo. Then I record the Hooks and then I record the melody of the instruments which I would like to include on it. The trick is to know how to mix them properly and also, to know a expecifical variative order to do that the melody of the song does not become monotonous and repetitive, which is boring for the listener.
Other example is when I rehearsal in the workshop class. Lately we have been working in the composition of a song which was required in the past funky junk project. Basically, we use an octave pedal and the big muff pedal, to work as intervals in the introduction and the bridges of the song that we are working in. Also there is a part of our song when there is an instrumental solo of both guitars and one of them uses the multi effects pedal and the octave pedal to create a very rocky sounds and it is so interesting.
Pedals, really help to give dynamic to our compositions.
