WORKSHOP CLASS WEEK 1 Psychedelic soul ( 10/09/18 - 14/09/18)


Psychedelic Soul

Psychedelic soul or Black rock is a genre which was originated at the end of the 1960s and the beginning of the 1970s, influenced by the characteristic of drugs, effects units such as the wah-wah pedal, phaser, delay and etc. This genre has a strong use of distortion in the guitar and very remarkable use of psychedelic synths which creates the recognizable sound of psychedelia. However, the mix of soul makes this genre rhythmically atmospheric and it used to be accompanied by visuals and imagery to create that psychedelia too.

Which clearly says that the surrounding effect of the music created the impulse to bring ecstasy and madness to the fans who also made of this music a kind of sound drug to take them somewhere else of reality.

Wednesday (12/09/18) 




Today at workshop class, we rehearsed the song "Papa was a rolling stone" by the temptations. During this workshop, we tried to arrange the key of the song and also to get at least the introduction to the song. It was very tricky to recognize the anacrusis in the melody that plays the bass in this song, but also the syncopation that there is within instruments such as the drums, the guitar, the trumpets, and the synths.  

However, we arranged something which we still have to work on. At least, it is clear now more the arrangement of the song and also the feeling of psychedelic soul that we are looking for.

I think we can get better if we try to structure properly the song and also if we do not make it chaotic, because today it was a bit messy about getting the song easily.


Thursday  (13/09/18)

Today at workshop class, we advanced with the structure of the song, but we still need to organize more the introduction and also to have clearer the rest of the song. I have to highlight that today's energy and attitude were really low and non-positive, we have to commit more about this workshops because it helps us to improve and to arrange music by our own knowledge and creativity.

 On the other hand, today I had clearer the right notes of the scale of Bbm which is the way that helps me to improvise for this song. Also, our teacher Keith helped us to implement the effects pedal to the electric guitar to give that "Wawa" sound, let's say the waves in the sound.

 All of us, we keep in contact by WhatsApp where we can discuss deeply our commitment and improvement for the next week. we definitely need to connect us as a band and also we need to improve the attitude. Anyway, it is getting better and also we have arranged something which fits to do a cover version of this song.

Half term holiday advance

In this half term, I will be working on my song "I wanna know you". 4th/april/2018 Today, I recorded the introduction of the song, but first of all, I remembered one of the tips from one of literature review which says that always we have to record first the instruments with louder frequency, but I started recording the base of the guitar and then I started adding the instruments. This song is in pop but I will add the reggaeton patterns at the chorus. This is a recording of the introduction of the song: The following audio is the same recording but with the effects on it. I have added EQ, Compressor, Pedals, reverb, delay and a phaser to create that sound: the next audio is the intro with the bass melody and the piano melody. Bernhoft who uses the looping on his music to creates the melody in every single instrument. he uses a dynamical and an interesting range of different acoustic instruments, such as the bass, the percussion, the hooks and the second voices. Also, he uses his voice to create repetitive phrases that contain like a Dj effect at the end of the phrase of the hook. He uses the loop pedal very well to create a live recording which is very interesting because he recreates an acoustic kind of instruments just with the guitar and his voices.
