Keith's band workshop Blues (31/10/18 - 1/11/18)

Blues

This is a genre of musical vocals and instrumental arrangement based on sadness and melancholy. Originated from the Afro-communities of the south of USA, but also one of the main influence in music development from American pop music. As well as the musical structure which is formed by blues' notes between the fifth and sixth in the pentatonic scale.
One of the main characteristics of blues is the instrumental call and response by the guitar and the voice which mainly is used to create the mood of melancholy and the 12 bars melodies originally used.

The 6/8 music signature, along with the guitar phrasing of call and response with the trumpet, any wind instrument used and vocals.

Wednesday 31/10/18

Today at band workshop lesson, we were introduced into the Blue's style. Firstly, we started to listen to some examples of different blues and we talked about the structure of the genre and the way of performing.

Also, we were assigned to play a cover of the song 'Tea for one' by Led Zeppelin. However, I think that we struggled a bit with the change of tempo from the Intro in 4/4 and the first verse in 6/8. Also, we started to improvise in some scales how we could arrange the cover.

I recognise that today we were not focused and committed to arranging this cover properly and also, we needed to listen more carefully to the original to arrange it better.

Thursday 1/11/18

Today, we listened more in detail the song ' Tea for one' and also, we tried to assemble the cover paying attention to each other to give space and coherence to each instrument, because yesterday It seemed a bit messy and uncoordinated.
