WORKSHOP CLASS WEEK 4 (3/10/18 - 4/10/18)
Wednesday 3/10/18
Today, at band workshops class we rehearsed a cover of the song Seventeen by Troye Sivan in disco style as part of the exercise of this week which was to play a cover of any song that we could choose in disco version.
We started to assemble this song in the original key, but the singer could not feel comfortable with that key, so we changed the key of the song and speeded it up the tempo. However, today was difficult to keep the tempo and also to add the style to make any song, your own cover. Anyway, I think that it is very interesting to do this kind of exercises that help us to be creative and innovative in the diverse types of music, and that we can convert them in our own version just by changing the original style to your own.
Thursday 4/10/18
Today we rehearsed the cover of the song, and also I added a boots pedal to create a contrasting solo pattern at the end of the song. I have to recognise that we did a really good job this week, I am proud of it actually. Also, the help of our teacher was really good to get a contrasting advance from yesterday and today.
On top of that, the disco style was contrasting because the original version is not like as we played so we dealt very well with the task. Also, the addition of the drums in the song that remarks that disco beats and the "breakdown" in some part of the song (min 2:52 of the video) that creates that solo of the drums and makes the song more interesting and dynamic. Even, the original song sounds completely different in non-disco-style. The best of this workshop week was that I could improve my confidence in improvisation and also in adding dynamics as a guitar player.
