champeta  Champeta is a genre which was born in Colombia influenced by African descent culture. Mainly, I have an interest in researching this musical genre that is been developed culturally in Cartagena; Colombia and Barranquilla; Colombia as part of an urban movement that identifies African descent population by the expressive dance style and feeling evoked by the freedom of romanticism mainly in celebrations (parties, festivals and traditional celebration in tropical places of the coast of Colombia). On top of that, there was a TV series which was very famous in 2013, called 'Bazurto' which developed as a main point of reference the strong musical influence of champeta where were played most of the most-known songs published which exposed better the genre through the country.  Also, I have a desire and curiosity for analysing deeper this genre that owns to my culture and that also, I have not had the initiative to get informed about the ba...

SOLO PERFORMANCE WEEK 3

Dynamics 2  During this workshop, I learnt how to use the changes in the dynamics of a song to engage more the audience. The way as we can modulate the volume and intensity of our sound can impact the audience very well or very bad. Principally, because when there is an equal feeling in the entire song is possible that the song becomes monotonous or uninteresting. Also, we made an exercise which was singing any song that we chose and singing it while another person was changing the dynamic of our volume by put up or down the hand. As well as,  that I was playing the guitar and singing at the same time, so It was very confusing and difficult to keep the tempo and the key during these variations of sound. I definitely have to be aware of using this kind of techniques while I am performing to give more impact to the audience and to offer more interest as a performer who engages people by variating my projection at the time of singing or playing any instrument. ...

SOLO PERFORMANCE WEEK 4

Tempo and Metronome During this workshop, we have learnt about how to use the variation of tempo to make more interesting and contrasting, our songs. Also, we made a task which was to sing the first song that we chose and trying to sing it again by changing the tempo (slower, faster) , however to deal with the task was easier of some people and harder for others, because once you change the tempo of a song the mood changes completely. I have realised that sometimes I feel uncomfortable with my compositions because I would like to give them more life or on the other hand, to give them more moving feeling. This exercise helped me to understand that sometimes the key of a song or the chord progression not only influence the mood of a melody but that the tempo influences as well how we can feel about a song, which is quite interesting to experiment and definitely, I will add a lot of this ideas to my future compositions. I have to improve more my understanding about the dy...

SOLO PERFORMANCE WEEK 5

Extremes of sounds Today at Chloe's class, we talked about the extremes of sounds and also we started using different sounds output the own function of the instruments to create limitless melodies based on another way of making sounds. apparently, the extreme sounds can be done by the use of any instrument but not doing their proper and main function. For example, we can create limitless melodies from a guitar based on the use of pedals or trying to use the guitar as percussion. In this workshop, I have learnt how to use creativity to make weird sounds or to loop a sequence of melody in a guitar by using effects pedal or boost pedal. Also, I tried to play the guitar with my ID card all the way through the strings in a horizontal position to make whatever sound that could be produced by the movements of my hand with the card over the strings. I have got completely new sounds and very dynamical beats looped on the pedal whereas I was looping more sounds. I would say t...

WORKSHOP CLASS WEEK 4 (3/10/18 - 4/10/18)

Wednesday 3/10/18 Today, at band workshops class we rehearsed a cover of the song Seventeen by Troye Sivan in disco style as part of the exercise of this week which was to play a cover of any song that we could choose in disco version. We started to assemble this song in the original key, but the singer could not feel comfortable with that key, so we changed the key of the song and speeded it up the tempo. However, today was difficult to keep the tempo and also to add the style to make any song, your own cover. Anyway, I think that it is very interesting to do this kind of exercises that help us to be creative and innovative in the diverse types of music, and that we can convert them in our own version just by changing the original style to your own. Thursday 4/10/18 Today we rehearsed the cover of the song, and also I added a boots pedal to create a contrasting solo pattern at the end of the song. I have to recognise that we did a really good job this week...
